Maria Markham

Class of 2024


Maria Markham is a visual artist working primarily in mutli-media, installation and video montage. As a transnational, she interrogates emigration and immigration, along with sociopolitical-economical issues, the body and psyche, and science and systems. Bringing a cross-disciplinary set of interests to art, she uses multiple media to engage with contemporary issues through the emotions and sensibility of the body to probe for and imagine new possibilities and futures. Markham’s artistic practice is amplified by over 30 years work in the nonprofit sector with diverse groups, boards and communities as a facilitator, program developer, executive director and strategist. She has a BSc from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, a Masters degree from the Heller School Brandeis University, MA and course work from The Corcoran College of Art and Design, Washington, DC and The Museum School, Boston, MA. She is currently studying for an MFA in Art Practice at the School for Visual Arts in New York. Her work was recently featured in online exhibits at The Alternative Art School. Born in Ireland, she currently lives in New Haven, CT, USA.
