Lisa Lee Freeman is a mixed-media artist based in New York. She borrows from the language of charts and maps to create abstract artworks about navigating chaos, change, uncertainty, and the unknown. Using a process of "interpretive charting," Freeman employs splattering and scribbling techniques to generate turbulent datascapes that she charts and annotates with shapes, symbols, text, and frenetic mark-making, evoking a palpable mix of anxiety and awe. With a background in journalism, Freeman has spent years poring over charts and examining how they tell stories and create meaning.
