Isa Wang

Class of 2019

Isa Wang (b. 1989) is a Massachusetts-based artist whose work focuses on intersecting identities from the lens of American consumerism. With a background in retail, Wang combines handmade and found objects with a commercial design aesthetic to examine the representation of marginalized communities in pop culture. Wang’s practice centers around the possibility of transformation via a mix of mediums and genres. Autobiographical artifacts are juxtaposed against broad marketing imagery, while cultural and gendered boundaries are traversed with performative and interactive elements.
