Farouk Oni

Class of 2021

A Brooklyn, NY native, raised in a Nigerian household, Farouk “Rouk” Oni channels his heritages and contexts of life through any medium that calls to him.

Through self awareness and a focus on understanding personal identity, Farouk engages topics surrounding Black and African history, tradition, and modern existence. He is interested in exploring the intersectional realities between Black and African culture.

His work currently focuses the lens on the liberation of Black people within the current social landscape and the world at large, and specifically works to highlight the liberation and empowerment of Black women. Farouk works to expose the false narratives surrounding the Black body and Black reality. Through his work he imagines future contexts in which the Black body, and in turn, all bodies are respected equally and equitably.
