Amy Whitaker

Class of 2018

Amy Whitaker is an interdisciplinary artist working in sound, composition, and conceptual photography. Her work explores the construction of subjectivity as it relates to spatiality, time, and aurality, using the voice and imagery as tools to locate the body in time and space, positing the voice as a site of inscription and possibility. Through it, she explores the impact of the structures of hierarchy upon the experiencing body, while seeking options to expand and change culturally created subjectivities. Her sound and performance work includes more than twenty years of composition, sound art, recording and performance.

Amy received her MFA in Art Practice from the School of Visual Arts in NYC in 2018, and her BA in Art History and Fine Art Photography from the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning at the University of Cincinnati in 2008, graduating magna cum laude. Amy lives and work in NYC and Cincinnati.
