Alyssa Shuey
Class of 2018
Alyssa Shuey is a multimedia artist and educator living near Tampa Florida, where she works as an adjunct professor of art and design at Florida Southern College. Because much of her work is concept driven, her medium is frequently changing, which she enjoys because it gives her the opportunity to try new things and experiment.
Some of her more recent works have involved performance – as a way to explore the mind-body connection, and how physical exertion has a correlation with our ideas of success; hand written survival guides – which address coping mechanisms that many people in our society are forced to adopt in order to “survive”; and found object sculptures – which were used in her thesis exhibition as a way to question the value, usefulness and function of discarded items, and how different circumstances may change these.
Alyssa likes to spend her free time with her husband and friends, doing CrossFit, or enjoying the beach.
