Memory Salon

Theodora Eliezer, Memory Salon, 2022

Memory Salon is a space for nonlinear remembering, a temporary environment activated by a series of durational, one-to-one performances generating shared experience through play and soft ritual. In Memory Salon, participants are guided to document their memories of my forthcoming work The Valley of the Green Glass Door, an interactive quest that leads participants to instructions on how to bend time.

Memory Salon is an exploration of the logic of nonlinearity: if future audience members of The Valley of the Green Glass Door have learned how to defy the constraints of linear time, they already possess the ability to recall that project, in advance of a first encounter with it. Memory Salon and The Valley of the Green Glass Door are parts of a larger, ongoing project that centers play and magic as techniques of resistance within oppressive systems, positioning the rejection of linear time as a liberatory practice.
